A 19th-century perspective of Twenty Miles Up the Licking, captured as an engraving and hand colored to highlight the details.
Engraved by W. Wellstood. The Licking River is a tributary of the Ohio River that runs through northeastern Kentucky. An early name for it was Great Salt Lick Creek, making reference to the many saline springs near the river which attracted animals to its salt licks.
