Mond Gas, Dudleyport (England) is an etching by Joseph Pennell, signed in pencil and inscribed “Imp.” The scene depicts the large industrial complex at Dudleyport in Staffordshire, where coal was converted into producer gas, known as Mond Gas, in the early 1900s. At its height, the plant processed over three million tons of coal each year, making it one of the most significant energy operations of its time. Pennell’s fine etching captures the scale and structure of the facility with remarkable precision, conveying both the power of modern industry and the stark beauty of its engineered landscape.
