The Bullenbeiser was a powerful German catch dog, once used for bull-baiting, hunting, and farm work. Muscular and courageous, it came in both large and small varieties, with the smaller type later crossed with English Bulldogs to create the modern Boxer. Though the Bullenbeiser became extinct by the early 20th century, its legacy lives on in the Boxer's athletic build, short coat, and distinctive head.
